[머리말]

일본의 우수한 품질과 중국의 저비용에 대응하기 위하여 우리나라 기업은 품질을 과학적으로 관리하여 고도의 품질을 유지하면서 원가를 절감하는 방안을 추구하여야 한다. 또한, 고객의 요구에 맞는 품질의 제품이나 서비스를 제공하기 위하여 고객요구 품질을 기획 및 설계 단계에서부터 명확히 하고 동시에 제조방법을 결정할 필요가 있으며, 생산단계에서는 품질, 코스트, 납기를 유지하고 개선해 나가야만 한다.
이를 위하여 고객의 요구사항을 만족시키는 품질특성치에 대하여 영향을 주는 요인을 찾아 인과관계를 명확히 하고, 품질에 대하여 과학적인 분석을 통하여 문제 해결의 방법을 제시할 수 있는 것이 통계적 기법이다. 따라서 신제품개발이나 공정을 관리 또는 개선시켜 나가는 데 통계적 기법, 특히 실험계획법 습득은 반드시 필요하다고 할 수 있다.

이 책의 특징은 다음과 같다.

① 우리나라 제조업, 서비스업, 공기업 등을 대표하는 품질우수기업을 선정하여 현장에서 품질개선을 실시하고 이를 실험계획법으로 분석한 사례를 제시하였다. 이 사례로 학습자들은 해당 제품의 공정을 보다 쉽게 이해할 수 있고, 개선 절차의 전개방법을 습득할 수 있다.
② 품질경영(산업)기사에 대한 출제기준을 충분히 반영하였고, 학습효과 향상을 위한 연습문제를 제시하였다.
③ 기호나 용어 등은 개정된 KS표준을 반영하였고, 모든 사례는 풀이과정을 자세히 해설하였다. 또한, 문제해결방법 설명을 위해 품질소프트웨어 도구인 한글판 MINITAB을 이용하였다.

이 책은 박성현 교수님의 “현대 실험계획법”의 틀을 벗어나지 못하고 있지만 저자가 현장에서 품질경영 지도나 국가품질상, 전국품질분임조경진대회 등의 심사를 통하여 얻은 지식을 현장에서 쉽게 사용할 수 있도록 실무위주로 작성하였고, 현장에서 잘 적용되지 않는 부분은 교재에 넣지 않았다. 따라서 보다 쉽게 대학이나 산업체에서 실험계획법을 접할 수 있을 것이다.
이 책의 내용이 앞으로 우리나라 품질발전을 위해 노력하는 학습자들에게 많은 도움이 되기를 바라며 실험계획법을 학습하는 데 밑거름이 되기를 바란다.
